Our Class Vision

In Bookworms, we work together to achieve our best.

We have lots of exciting and interesting topics to learn about.

Mrs Broomhead will lead the learning, supported by Mrs Walker.

In Bookworms, we work together to achieve our best.

We have lots of exciting and interesting topics to learn about.

Here is a quick look at what we will be learning in our lessons:

In Maths we will extend our knowledge of mental and written methods for the four number operations. We will take part in weekly mental maths activities, and continue to learn any times tables we do not yet know.

Later in the term, we will study fraction, decimals and percentages, and we will also try to make our own models of 3D shapes.

Many of our English lessons will to be centred on a key story, poem or factual piece of writing.  We will make links to our WWII topics, using books such as Rose Blanche and Hitler’s Daughter. We will be responding to the texts we have read and exploring the features of a range of genres. As we work, we will focus upon the purpose and organisation of our writing and hope to publish our work for a variety of audiences.

After October half will continue to take part in lessons with Mr Burdekin, focusing on exciting writing.

This term in Science, our topic is Earth and Space. We will learn about the size, order and characteristics of different planets in our Solar System. We will link this to our Maths lessons, planning and creating scale models of planets.

We will also investigate famous Scientists, and find out how their discoveries helped to make different scientific breakthroughs.

If you would like to find out more about our class or topics, please contact Mrs Broomhead at school. During the year we will also be taking part in some inter-school sports competitions. If your child has a special sporting skill or talent that we do not yet know about, please let us know!

English - June 2017

In English lessons we have been working on writing exciting short stories, with lots of description and adverbials of time, place and manner.

Well done to Hari who created a very tense and fast paced Hostage story! His writing includes lots of detailed description, adverbial openers and a great use of paragraphs for organisation. When we shared the story in class, we could really imagine what being in the story was like, which means Hari has used great imagery to engage the audience. Well done Hari, keep up the hard work!

Topic Work - June 2017

During our topic lessons, we have been learning about Ancient Greece. We have learnt about democracy, Gods and Goddesses, and the origins of the Olympic Games.

A big well done to Sophie, who created this wonderful Greek vase to show the Olympic sport of javelin. She used similar colours and tones to the Ancient Greeks, and even managed to make the body look like it was moving. Sophie has made a huge improvement in her art work recently- we are very proud of her!
